FAQs

What is Wine Collector?

Wine Collector is an online wine collection management platform and trading exchange for private individuals and wine traders.

Who are Wine Owners?

Wine Owners are a software company who make industry leading software products for the Wine Industry.

Has the Wine Collector platform been acquired by Nickolls & Perks?

Yes, Nickolls & Perks (N&P) will be the beneficial owner of the private Wine Collector platform from April 9th 2025. Wine Collector will be set up as a separate legal entity to maintain the independence of the platform.

Who are Nickolls & Perks?

Nickolls & Perks are the oldest provincial wine merchant in the UK, founded in 1797, with the last four generations spearheaded by the Gardener family. Remarkably, the Gardeners are due to celebrate their 80th year of family ownership this year.

Why has the Wine Collector platform been sold by Wine Owners to Nickolls & Perks?

Wine Owners main business has been to provide Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions to the wine trade that manages all aspects of their operations, customer engagement and sales channels. As a result, it increasingly made less sense to be operating a platform that engages private individuals directly, which is a core activity of many of our SaaS business clients. Nickolls & Perks are the perfect new home for Wine Collector, guaranteeing continuity, and with ambitious plans for investing in the team, promotion and meeting the demands of private collectors who have chosen to self manage and self direct.

Do you have permission to share my personal data with Nickolls & Perks?

Yes, under the overall terms of use to which you agreed when creating an account, specifically under section 5 of the Privacy Policy, we provided for new ownership by explaining that "if a change happens to our business, then the new owners may use your personal data in the same way as set out in this privacy notice https://www.wineowners.com/privacy"

Do you need to seek my approval to transfer of personal data?

Data Protection rules only require for your consent where there is a clear change of purpose, and which is fully provided for in the Privacy Policy. Since we plan for as seamless continuity as possible, and the transfer of the Wine Collector business 'as is', the purpose for which you originally gave your consent remains exactly the same.

How do I know that my personal data will be protected in future?

Nickolls & Perks will continue to host Wine Collector in a secure environment in the Cloud, and will maintain and run all the same security protocols as before that have kept your personal data safe and secure over the years.

Am I able to request that my data is not transferred?

Yes, please submit your request to contact@wineowners.com by 20th March 2025 at the latest, and we will delete your account and will not transfer your data. We aim to provide confirmation of deletion within 5 days. Please make sure you download any information you wish to retain before sending the email.

Will the URL change?

The URL will change to winecollector.com and the current home page https://www.wineowners.com/winecollector will divert to the new URL.

Will my logins change?

Your user name and password will remain the same.

What else will change?

The terms and conditions of use, privacy policy, contact numbers, contact email addresses will also change, reflecting the new ownership. The look and feel of the platform will be updated. Rest assured the way that the platform works will remain unchanged.

What happens to my storage accounts?

Your wine storage account will transfer into the ownership of the new entity set up by N&P. Your storage account details and rotation numbers will not change, so you do not need to do anything. Your wine will not physically be moved.

Can I transfer my stored wines elsewhere and is there a charge for doing that?

Your storage account is paid up until April 1 2025. If you wish to transfer wine out of your storage account before the end of March, please let us know by 10th March 2025 at the latest. Please be aware that there may be delivery, duty and VAT charges if you transfer wine. There may also be receiving charges into a bonded storage account. If there are any outstanding storage fees due these will need to be settled in full before transfer of any wines are initiated.

Is my Wine Collector account up to date?

The reason your storage invoice went out late in 2024 (August as supposed to April) was to enable us to conduct a thorough reconciliation process. If you have withdrawn, sold or received any wine into your Wine Collector account since last August please check those changes are reflected in your account, and contact us if they are not.

How will the Wine Collector service be managed?

You will be a user of the new Wine Collector entity managed by N&P, whereas the software will continue to be hosted and managed by Wine Owners as the technology supplier to N&P.

What will happen to trades that are in progress at the date of transfer?

Monies deposited into the Wine Owners Members Account by buyers of wine will be transferred over to a new bank account of the new entity controlled by N&P. Monies held on account received in payment for completed trades will be wired into your bank account. If you have not previously provided us with bank account details we will contact you to provide them. If we cannot get hold of you, we will transfer the balance over to the new entity's bank account by April 9th.

What will happen to my trading history?

Your trading history will continue to be accessible to you. Your cleared cash account balance will show as 0 the day of the transfer of the business as a going concern to N&P.

Will trading commissions change?

Trading commissions on the Wine Collector platform will remain the same for the foreseeable future.

Will subscription options change?

Subscription options on the Wine Collector platform will remain the same for the foreseeable future.

What are the plans for the future?

Nickolls & Perks are investing in resourcing the team to meet the needs of the community that relies on Wine Collector to manage and trade wine collections. There’ll be further enhancements announced in due course.
